Lama Bashir notices Sunji's dwindling concentration. LAMA BASHIR That's enough for today, Sunji. (closes the book and sets it aside) I know, this has been quite a taxing stay for you so far. Sunji utters a small sigh of relief. He ponders a thought out loud. SUNJI Honourable Lama, if we knew all the hardships which had been predicted, why could we not avoid them? LAMA BASHIR (tugging at his chin) Well Sunji, if we could have avoided the predictions; then the mere fact of avoidance would have proven them false. SUNJI (confused) Huh? Lama Bashir settles his relaxed hands on the table, and enlightens Sunji's preoccupation. LAMA BASHIR Predictions are probabilities, they do not mean that Man has no free will. Far from it. You may want to travel from Lhasa to India. If you prepare yourself appropriately and take the time to consult a map; you will see certain places through which you would ordinarily pass to reach your destination. (pauses) While it is possible to avoid these places, it is not always wise to do so. The journey may be longer or more expensive as a result. |
